Athletic Therapy

Iron Spikes offers an excellent Athletic Therapy program geared towards not only getting athletes healthy and back on the field, but to preventing and avoiding injuries before they arise with various methods of prevention and rehabilitation. Many athletes wait until it is too late and the injury has already occurred and progressed. We recommend using Athletic Therapy on a regular basis to help prevent and lower the chance of injury.

What is athletic therapy? Athletic therapy is a practice geared not only to help athletes rehabilitate and treat injuries, but to also help prevent injuries with various forms of treatments such as cupping, instrument assisted soft tissue manipulation, and deep tissue massaging to name a few. The main goal of Athletic Therapy is to get the athlete back on the field at 100% health as quickly as possible, and to keep them there.

Cupping – Cupping therapy is a type of alternative therapy that involves the packing of cups directly onto the skin to create suction. The suction created by the cupping causes your skin to rise and blood vessels to expand which leads to overall increased blood flow which helps to relieve muscle tension and promote cell repair. This method is a very effective way to treat any type of tension, aches, and nagging injuries that you may have and has become very popular among top athletes around the world.

Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) – Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization is a practice in which a professional Athletic Therapist uses hand held instruments to locate and break up scar tissue and fascial restrictions within the soft tissue(muscles, ligaments, tendons, fascia) of the athlete which may have developed from injury, overuse, and general wear and tear from athletic activity. This method has been shown to help athletes regain function and range of motion following an injury as well as shorten the rehabilitation process associated with the injury.

Deep tissue massaging – Across the world, deep tissue massaging is a valuable component in many collegiate, professional, and olympic training programs. Research shows that deep tissue massaging helps reduce inflammation and promotes the growth of new cells. This leads to the reduction of pain and faster growth and recovery of muscle cells. Many injuries arise from the imbalance of muscles which leads to stiffness and tension. Deep tissue massaging is one of the most common and effective methods to regaining strength and mobility and getting the athlete back on the field ready to perform at their maximum potential.
